The Renault Koleos, a compact SUV from the Renault Motors, was first introduced as a concept car at the 2006 Mondial de l'Aumotobile in Paris. Designed by Renault and developed by Nissan, the all-terrain crossover Koleos has been inspired by the tried and tested X-Trail platform and is assembled at the Renault-Nissan production facility at Oragadam outside Chennai. Being based on the X-Trail, the Koleos is built on a very reliable platform. Renault launched the Koleos in India in September 2011, with a lot of promise, claiming that the car is a perfect blend of power with pleasure. The car is claimed to offer precise steering feedback, outstanding stability and road view, contributing to a sedan-like driving experience. In India, the car will be available in four colour options – Maple Red, Black Metallic, Ultra Silver and White Pearl.
The Renault Koleos will be available only in its diesel version in India. The SUV is equipped with 2 versions of a 1,995cc direct injection common rail turbocharged diesel engine; that produce outputs of 148 bhp and 171 bhp and a maximum Torque of 320 Nm and 360 Nm respectively, both at 2,000 rpm. The vehicle will be available both in four-wheeled and two-wheeled drive options with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 4x2 variant of the Koleos SUV can zoom from 0-100 kph in 11.5 seconds; the 4x4 MT version can do the sprint in 9.9 seconds and the 4x4 AT variant deals with it in 11.9 seconds.
The Renault Koleos is claimed to be one of the safest cars with both active and passive safety features. The safety of the car is also certified by a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Being both intuitive and practical, the car is loaded with the latest technology and safety features including ABS with EBD, hill descent control and hill start assist, 6 SRS airbags and an emergency door unlocking mechanism; making sure that each drive is safe.
